It seems that just yesterday Donald Trump had won the election to be our 45th President. As much as the controlled media has lambasted everything that President Trump has tried to accomplish, the passage of time these last fourteen months has seemed to crawl at a snails pace.
Now it is time for the primaries of the mid-term elections to take place. The Democrats are pushing hard to take over the House of Representatives and thus take control from the Republicans. The Republicans are eyeing early voter turnout for the Texas Primaries to help gauge the pulse of voters.
No matter what happens during this election cycle, George Wallace was prophetic when he stated, “There’s not a dime’s worth of difference between the Democrat and Republican parties.” This turn of phrase was spoken in the 1968 Presidential campaign, but it has reverberated around in my brain for many years.
This does, however, beg the question... Are professional politicians the problem?
Over the years I have read many books and articles about the founders of our Constitutional Republic and those who “volunteered” for public service. Those men were doctors, farmers, business owners, and they felt an obligation to do their service and then return home and resume their careers.
Such is not the case in today’s political arena. A perfect example of this is John Dingell (D-MI) who served 59 years and 21 days before retiring from the House of Representatives in 2015. Mr. Dingell succeeded his father in that seat when the senior Dingell retired after 22 years as a Representative. Imagine, one family served a combined 81 years!
John Dingell, Jr. (center) preceeded by his father, John Dingell, Sr. for a combined 81 year strangehold as representive for Michigan’s 16th district. Now John Dingell, Jr.’s wife, Debbie, has been elected to carry on the lineage.

To make matters worse, most Americans are not aware that politicians can commit insider trading and not be prosecuted. That’s right, these people are above the law! Let John Q. Public commit an act of insider trading and he will be punished to the fullest extent of the law.
President Obama tried to stop congressional insider trading when he signed the Stop Trading on Congressional Knowledge (STOCK) act in 2012. This worked until 2013 when Congress quietly amended the law with a sneaky, quick procedural vote. Chief Income Strategist at Investmentu.com, Marc Lichtenfeld wrote, “I have a fool-proof way of getting rich...and it doesn’t require much risk because you already know the outcome. In fact, you’ll help decide it. All you have to do to increase your net worth by 10-fold is get elected to Congress.”
Is this what America has become? Do we elect criminals to represent us? How many of these malarial mosquitoes are buzzing around the swamp in Washington, D.C.?
Many Americans have clamored for term limits to be implemented on our elected officials. Those in power don’t wish to give it up that easily, so this notion has been rebuffed time and time again.
But, if voter apathy wasn’t so high, term limits would not be required because these rascals could be voted out of office after one or two terms. Professional politicians know this and thus include appropriations on bills to bring money into their district.
Americans have long held suspicions about these miscreants. In an 1836 issue of the Democratic Review, it stated that “in America we have no great faith in professional politicians.”
The qualities and characteristics of professional politicians are diametrically opposed to the supposed goals of a representative democracy. Many have never owned a business, met payroll, or had to show a profit to keep the doors open, yet they are writing the budget for a multi-trillion dollar conglomeration.
In fact, many of these professional politicians have been paid with taxpayer dollars most of their lives. Many are lawyers and claim to know the law, but have never practiced it.
If we’re to have laws that reflect the reality of American society, we need to have realists in office who’ve been there and done that. That means we cannot tolerate 40-year politicians and presidents who have never even drawn a paycheck from the private sector.
Professional politicians can never know what daily life is all about for average Americans. The mere fact that we sometimes use the phrase, “The ruling class” to describe our politicians tells me that there is a real disconnect between those making the rules in this country and those who have to follow them.
But the professionalism of politics does not stop on the steps of Congress. Bureaucrats, staff, lobbyists, and consultants are making careers out of politics as well. Professional consultants have all but taken over the controlling process of public policy.
President Andrew Jackson once stated, “There are, perhaps, few men who can for any great length of time enjoy office and power without being more or less under the influence of feelings unfavorable to the faithful discharge of their public duties.” Jackson also stated, “The more secure an officeholder, the more his interests would diverge from those of his constituents.”
The precedent of a President only serving two terms was set by George Washington. Some claim that it was a safeguard against the type of tyrannical power wielded by the British crown during Colonial times. Although there were a few who ran for a third term they were not elected.
Roosevelt was the only President elected to 4 terms.

This changed with Franklin D. Roosevelt who was elected four times. Presidential term-limit discussions began in 1944 and the 22nd Amendment was passed in March of 1947. This seems to be an inconvenient law for one former President.
Most former Presidents have left Washington and returned home. This was done to respectfully allow the new administration to implement their agenda. Regrettably, this has not occurred with Barack Obama. He has purchased an 8,200 square-foot house to serve as the nerve center for his “shadow government.”
I am reminded of many posts during President Barack Obama’s reign as Commander in Chief. Psalms 109:8 was quoted many times: “Let his days be few; and let another take his office.” But, looking at the approval ratings when Obama left office—over 50%—surely Obama felt his actions were still in high demand.
Instead of doing humanitarian projects, Obama is busy spearheading protests and actions vehemently opposed to President Trump’s initiatives. Although Obama may not have been able to persuade Americans to elect Hillary Clinton, more and more information is being released about Obama’s collusion with the FBI and the Justice Department to keep Trump from winning. It seems that Barack was preparing for life after the White House, even while sitting in the Oval Office.
With the ever-increasing growth of the evil and corrupt bureaucracy in Washington, D.C., it seems to mirror what is written in Isaiah 5:13-15: “Therefore my people are gone into captivity, because they have no knowledge: and their honourable men are famished, and their multitude dried up with thirst. Therefore hell hath enlarged herself, and opened her mouth without measure: and their glory, and their multitude, and their pomp, and he that rejoiceth, shall descend into it. And the mean man shall be brought down...”
This “professionalization” of politics has created a “permanent government,” otherwise known as the “establishment.” During the last half of the twentieth century, elected officials had spent more time in public office than during any other period in American history.
Our forefathers were decidedly against a tyrannical government. Sadly, we have stood idly by and allowed a certain few to garner power to the extent that we are merely serfs in this kingdom. It is time to stand up and let your voices be heard.
“Let him that is taught in the word communicate unto him that teacheth in all good things. Be not deceived... for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.
