In conference with his chief advisors at the height of World War II, the Kremlin's Joseph Stalin was cautioned not to take a certain course of action.
"That might upset the Catholic Pope," the Communist dictator was gingerly informed. To which the cynical Stalin brusquely retorted, "How many army divisions does the Pope have?"
That was over a half century ago. Today, few leaders on the world scene question Pope John Paul II's incredible potential to wield power and influence in transforming the world to the Vatican's desired image.
Former U.S. President Ronald Reagan and former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev have even given Pope John Paul II credit for playing a major role in the collapse of Communism in the U.S.S.R. and the dismantling of the Iron Curtain.
Meanwhile, our Pope-friendly TV news media continue to barrage our senses with scenes of the rich, the famous, and the powerful bowing down, kissing the Pope's ring, and otherwise deferring and showing obeisance to the Pontiff.
But the so-called "Vicar of Christ"—who oversees a vast empire of one billion Catholic faithful, not to mention millions more admirers from evangelical, charismatic, voodoo, Hindu, Moslem and other religious persuasions—is not pleased with adulation alone. John Paul II has bigger fish to fry.
Pope to Become New King David?
According to the late Dr. Malachi Martin, the distinguished, former Jesuit theologian and Vatican insider, this Pope is convinced that he has a far greater destiny awaiting him than any religious figure in the annals of mankind. The Pontiff will also visit Mount Sinai, the rocky, barren mountain where Moses was given the Ten Commandments by a Holy God.
Then finally, the Pope will be seen on global television triumphantly surveying his future World Capital as he traverses the streets of Jerusalem. This astonishing spectacle is set for the month of March in the year 2000, the Third Millennium.
