Is This the Cause of Societal Turmoil?
“Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and convert, and be healed.”
|
“But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear. For verily I say unto you, That many prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them.”

Our Pastor Emeritus, the late Texe Marrs, coined a very apt phrase in his last published work entitled Psychopaths: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow. How else does one describe the events that continually transpire other than “Crazy Times?”
When Jesus arrived in the country of the Gadarenes, He was met by a man filled with an unclean spirit. This man could not be chained or tamed so filled with evil was he. How did this man become free from this Legion of demons? He ran to Jesus and worshipped Him.
When one turns on the nightly news, be it on a television, a radio, or a news website, it is apparent that Satan’s minions are abundant. Evil permeates our society today. Case in point, on one news website this author visits daily these were just a few of the headlines listed in less than a 24-hour period:
~ 2 dead, 5 injured in shooting in downtown Washington, D.C.
~ Active shooter in Bucks County, PA
~ Fight led to subway shooting
~ Man Killed Mother With Stake—He Believed She Was A Vampire
~ Rebel News reporter arrested by Toronto Police
~ Controversy over drag show at Texas A&M

My name is Legion: for we are many
According to the World Health Organization, the definition of mental well-being is the ability of an individual to handle the normal stresses and adversities of life and contribute productively to society. However, for those who are in this world, these obstacles can be daunting and overwhelming. How else does one explain the amount of vitriol and violence being perpetrated every day?
As the Apostle Paul wrote about those who have found their peace in Jesus: “nd be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God” (Romans 12:2).
In a report from Sapien Labs—a non-profit research group based in Washington, D.C.—entitled Mental State of the World 2023, they claim “while the declines in mental well-being seen during the Covid-19 pandemic have been halted, there has since been no recovery back to pre-Covid-19 levels.” If the intent of the powers-that-be for unleashing the scamdemic on the world was to create mental instability, it was a resounding success.
The Mental State of the World Report states that there is still no mental recovery back to pre-Covid-19 levels.

Compounding this distress is the millions of impressionable youth who blindly follow so-called “influencers” on social media. Was the moniker of “Generation Z” given to these individuals intended to be prophetic? Is this to be the last generation before His return? Or is this a blasphemous label concocted by demonic forces?
These are just a few of today’s Gen-Z influencers impacting your children and grandchildren.

Temptations Abound
With the proliferation of these social media outlets, many young adults can be easily persuaded to succumb to peer pressure and embrace popular culture. Many feel the church demonizes everything outside of the church or claim that it is boring.
The prevalence of pornography in all media outlets has presented the youth with a dilemma that overshadows wholesomeness. Research has shown that young Christians are as active as non-Christians in chasing their carnal desires.
Between ten and fifteen percent of teenagers struggle with depression. With their emergence into society and its overwhelming temptations, many face major obstacles in their path to adulthood.
For those with no spiritual background these may seem insurmountable. Even those who attended church with their parents may have been distracted by a wandering mind or their devices.
It is imperative for parents to live and teach a biblical lifestyle. In James 1:22-25: “But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves... For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was... not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.”
Forgiveness and Grace
Evil has been rampant throughout history. The Bible gives us a multitude of examples of the destructiveness of it. Satan will continue to influence those who rejoice in this world, drawing them into his lair. We also know of God’s judgment on those who reject Him.
From the days of Adam until today, mankind has been full of sinners. God’s Holy Word teaches us of His patience with us. In 2 Peter 3:9:
“The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”
|
Paul warns us in 2 Timothy 3:1-5:
“This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.”

Through the Holy Spirit, God enables us to put our evil deeds to death and live in His ways. However, those who belong to Him—those who have put their faith in Jesus Christ—are His ambassadors.
For those who refuse to listen to your message, remember what Jesus said in Mark 6:11:
“And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear you, when ye depart thence, shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony against them. Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.”

You will undoubtedly come across someone who has vehemently staked their claim in this world. As the old-west vernacular states, “You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make him drink.“
Be not deterred in your journey. Our great commission demands our utmost.
Just as the rain washes pollutants from the air, God’s grace and forgiveness will cleanse our souls. Be mindful in your daily interactions with others that you are but a pilgrim, merely passing through this world to a glorious kingdom. Invite them to come along by being the light which exposes the spiritual darkness.
